The Outreach Committee (formerly PAC):

The outreach committee is made up of dedicated NLDHA members who are committed to raising public awareness of dental hygiene and highlight our profession throughout the province. Some of the duties of the outreach committee include organizing events, setting up booths at various expos or health fairs, and/or conducting presentations at schools, senior centers, etc.

The Professional Development Committee (PDC):

The PDC is responsible for organizing professional development and continuing education opportunities for NLDHA members. Some of the duties of the PDC may include organizing and attending events and/or contacting educators.

The Gathering Place is a community health center that provides services to those who are less fortunate. Some of the guests at The Gathering Place may be living on the streets, struggling with hunger, abuse, mental illness, physical disabilities, and/or addiction. In 2018 they opened a fully functional dental clinic in order to provide free dental and dental hygiene services to their guests.

"Many guests are requesting visits with the dental hygienist because this is a service that they’ve never been able to access in the past through government programs or otherwise. I can speak from experience and tell you that many guests who have been seen by a RDH have a strong desire to regain control of their oral health and they are excited to learn what they need to do at home to maintain and improve their oral health.

Every time you walk through those doors, I promise you’ll leave a better version of yourself whether you’re volunteering as a dental hygienist or just chatting with guests. It is an absolutely beautiful place and it will restore your faith humanity!"

The Gift from the Heart is a one-day event offering free dental hygiene services to those who are unable to access care. Every year the NLDHA, with help from Academy Canada's dental assisting program, participates in the Gift from the Heart. The event usually takes place on a Saturday in April.
